How Do Piston Air Compressors Operate?

Also known as reciprocating compressors, piston air compressors rely on crankshafts powered by pistons and cylinders to provide an uninterrupted air supply. The piston, moving upward and downward, helps compress air in a cyclical motion.

When the piston moves downward, it captures air through the intake valve, and when the piston moves upward, the air is compressed. This compressed air is then trasnferred to a storage tank through an outlet valve.

Common Applications of Piston Compressors

Piston compressors are most commonly used for powering pneumatic tools at:

– Car Washes
– Service Stations
– Small mechanical car service centres
– Tyre shops
– Spray painting businesses

Our piston air compressors are utilised in various industries, including construction, manufacturing, and automotive. From homes to workshops, our air compressors in Perth are silently powering tools and equipment.

Pros and Cons of Piston Air Compressors

Pros

Lower Initial Cost

Piston air compressors are generally priced lower than screw air compressors. This makes it an ideal choice for small businesses and homeowners.

Portability

These compressors come in a range of sizes, from compact to large. The smaller models facilitate portability and are ideal for a wide range of pneumatic applications.

Low Noise Levels

Smooth, seamless, low-noise operation guaranteed! Piston air compressors are ideal for continuous and indoor use.

Slow Running

The lower RPM of piston air compressors mean less wear and tear and a longer lifespan.

Cast Iron Industrial Block

Our piston air compressors are made with a robust cast-iron engine block for maximum durability.

Quality European Switch Gear

The electrical components used in the compressors are sourced from Europe, ensuring the highest performance and safety.

West Australian Design Approval

All our air compressors are compliant with West Australian design and safety requirements. Our piston air compressors thrive in extreme West Australian weather conditions.

Low vibration

Continuous and indoor use becomes easy, thanks to the low vibration of the air compressors.

Cast iron pulley

Heavy-duty cast iron pulley for seamless power transmission and durability. It also helps with RPM control.

2-year limited warranty

Be stress-free about repairs and maintenance. We offer a 2-year limited warranty on our piston air compressors.

Cons

Limited Continuous Use

You are better off using screw air compressors for a more continuous use cycle. With a typical duty cycle of about 50-70%, piston compressors are better suited for applications that don’t require a continuous air supply.

Higher Maintenance Frequency

Due to a larger number of moving parts in piston air compressors, they demand more frequent maintenance. The maintenance process itself is not complex; it is just that the frequency is higher than that of a screw air compressor.
